Stekoa Creek
Watershed
Management Plan
The Chattooga Conservancy, in cooperation with the City of Clayton and the GA DNR, developed and completed a Watershed Management Plan for the Stekoa Creek watershed in 2015. A Watershed Management Plan (WMP) adheres to the EPA’s Nine Key Elements for Watershed Planning to inventory and propose ways to address sources of pollution within a watershed. Importantly, the Stekoa WMP enables water quality improvement projects within the Stekoa Creek watershed to qualify for competitive state and federal funding applications. In 2017, in cooperation with the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, we received a GA DNR Section 319(h) grant to continue our work in the Rabun County community to address “non-point” sources of pollution in the Stekoa Creek watershed.
