The Nantahala Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina is expected to release a “Draft Environmental Assessment for the Southside Project,” for public comment sometime before the end of 2017, and probably during the busy holiday season. The Southside Project currently proposes timber harvesting activities in ecologically significant landscapes throughout the headwaters portion of the Chattooga River watershed, and poses a real threat to the ecological integrity of these special places. To learn more about the Southside Project, see our comments on the Southside Project page and the Forest Service’s website. Make sure to check back in coming weeks for an update on the Draft Environmental Assessment for the Southside Project and the Chattooga Conservancy’s “Talking Points.”
