Planned Giving

A planned gift is one of the most impactful ways you can show your love for the Chattooga and support the Chattooga Conservancy’s conservation work. You might be able to save on taxes, receive income for life, or enjoy other financial benefits—all while keeping the Chattooga River watershed healthy for years, and generations, to come.

If you have included the Chattooga Conservancy in your estate plans, please let us know. Not only do we want the chance to celebrate your commitment, letting us know about your gift helps us plan for the future. All conversations are confidential unless you would like to share your story, and you are, of course, allowed to remain anonymous in your giving.
All planned gifts support the Chattooga Conservancy’s work protecting the magnificent Wild & Scenic Chattooga River and special nearby places. Please discuss any planned gift with your attorney, accountant, and/or other financial advisor(s).
common options for planned gifts:
  • Bequests
  • Gifts of land

  • Making the Chattooga Conservancy a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement account
  • Life income gifts, or charitable remainder trusts, which can provide income for you during your lifetime
  • Stocks, bonds, mutual funds or other publicly traded securities
  • Cash or check, in a donation that supports your overall estate planning

Bequests

Bequests are an excellent way to support the mission of the Chattooga Conservancy in your will or living trust. Bequests allow you to create a meaningful plan for your gift without affecting your cash flow during your lifetime. The same is true if you name us as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, bank account, or security. A bequest can be changed or modified at any time, and you can choose to designate that a bequest be used for a general or specific purpose. Again, please discuss any planned gift with your attorney, accountant, and/or other financial advisor(s).

Example Bequest language

In order to make a bequest, your attorney can help you include a bequest in your will or other estate planning documents. We have provided some basic bequest language to assist you and your attorney.

Don’t have a Will or Living Trust?

If you do not have a living will or trust, some Chattooga Conservancy members reported success creating one through FreeWill.com. The website is free to use, but the final document may require notarization and witness, which can be done at most local banks.

The website is capable of creating a simple, but valid will for whatever state you reside in and allows for the listing of non-profits such as The Chattooga Conservancy as a beneficiary of all or part of your estate.
