Stekoa Creek
Watershed
Management Plan
The Chattooga Conservancy, in cooperation with the City of Clayton and the GA DNR, recently developed and completed a Watershed Management Plan for the Stekoa Creek watershed. A Watershed Management Plan (WMP) adheres to the EPA’s Nine Key Elements for Watershed Planning to inventory and propose ways to address sources of pollution within a watershed. Importantly, the Stekoa WPM now enables future water quality improvement projects within the Stekoa Creek watershed to qualify for competitive state and federal funding applications. The Chattooga Conservancy recently submitted a grant request in cooperation with the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission that – if successful – will continue our work in the Rabun County community to address “non-point” sources of pollution in the Stekoa Creek watershed.
