The Chattooga River Ranger District has issued a Scoping Notice regarding three applications for special use permits on National Forest System lands. These applicants include:
- Adventures in Horseback, LLC- Requesting authorization for outfitter/guided horse riding and camping in the following areas:

- Coleman River/ Upper Hightower
- Wildcat Creek/ Dicks Creek
- Oakey Mountain/ Raper Creek
- Shirley Grove/ Bear Gap/ Low Gap
- Honeystand/ Black Mountain area

- Walking in the Woods- Requesting authorization for outfitter/ guided hiking trips on the Bartram Trail
- Daniel’s Discovery Tours Shady Creek Expeditions- Requesting authorization for a variety of outfitter and guided uses, including:
- Hiking and dispersed camping on the Bartram Trail, Chattooga River Trail, Rabun Bald Trail, and Three Forks Trail;
- Dispersed camping in the Burrells Ford and Reed Creek areas, the Warwoman WMA, the upper Chattahoochee River area;
- Fishing along the Chattooga River, West Fork, Hoods Creek, and Warwoman Creek;
- Guided hunting in the Warwoman WMA;
- Mountain biking on the Stonewall and White Twister Trails;
- Waterfall hikes to Angel/ Panther Falls, Holcomb/ Ammons Creek Falls, Dicks Creek Falls, and Minnehaha Falls;
We are particularly concerned with the commercial activities proposed to occur inside the Wild & Scenic Chattooga River corridor, and adding increased commercial use in areas that are already trammeled with many user-created trails, such as the Three Forks Trail into the Overflow Creek area. We are working on drafting official comments for this scoping notice, and will share more comments as we near the November 22nd deadline.
