Spring Bird Walk Recap

Bird Walk_4.18.26
April 18th brought a clear, cool, sunny morning to the Warwoman Dell parking lot in Rabun County, Georgia.

A few members of the Chattooga Conservancy and local community met to participate in a bird walk led by ornithology expert Jack Johnston. The morning began in Warwoman Dell and ended by the waters of Dick’s Creek, a Chattooga tributary just upstream of Sandy Ford. Participants traveled by car to various check points in different forest types. At each location, with Jack’s expert guidance, the group identified spring migrants and year-round residents, alike. Highlights included a singing Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, numerous Hooded Warbler sightings, and a Broad-Winged Hawk fly-by. The trip would not have been complete without academic insertions about botany, ecology, and Chattooga watershed history from Jack. The outing was an altogether inspiring spring exploration!
